How can you keep track of releases? One way is to download the latest beta and check for updates regularly. New versions are normally being released every few weeks. You can also visit the Releases page regularly. Finally, you can follow the Mozilla blog and keep up with Firefox news.
Part of the challenge for toolbar icons is to be able to have one xpi which can be installed on both firefox 3.x and firefox 4.x and be able to specific two different set of icons (given that the toolbar styles are so different). Is there an easy way to do that? Is there a way to us the firefox version in the CSS selector?
firefox 4 download beta 7
You can count me out for FF4 as well. Just downloaded the latest beta. This is a step backwards in my opinion. Plus my ThunderbirdBiff addon is rendered virtually useless due to the departure of the status bar. In addition, all the changes required to change an addon which has worked from version 2 and 3 are simply too much of a pain. All the new requirements. Plus all of hoops that require jumping at AMO are just taking the fun out of this. What a shame. Perhaps it is time to check out Chrome?
as a student i like firefox 3.6 more because of its some extensions like screengrab , web2pdf ,text to voice ,save as pdf and more .but the firefox 3.6 takes more time to open than 4 beta . my question is that if the developers could make these extensions compatible with 4 beta then it would be great because not only it would be fast but also i can also use its interface easily and it would help me a lot in my studies
Finally after long wait Firefox 4 Beta 7 has been released by Mozilla and available for download, you need to wait till January 2011 to taste Firefox 4 Final version. Actually Firefox 4 Beta 7 should have been released in second half of September but delayed due to technical issues that caused the rebuild.
Installing the hardware acceleration platform update for Windows 7 improved the quality of (font) rendering for hardware acceleration with Firefox 4, restoring ClearType alike quality. You can download the update at Microsoft download:
over 90FPS.and i dont know if my hardware acceleration was enabled or not, because i just installed my beta5 just now.and my hardware is not so much extreme as all the other posts abovecore2duo P8600 2.4ghz3gb ddr2 rammobility radeon hd3650loving the new foxPS) i cant even run the test under ie8.
There is a videos where IE9 beta is compared to Firefox 4 beta 5, and of course Firefox fails miserably compared to IE9.The website they use to compare IE9 to other leading web browsers is:
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P8400 @ 2.26GHz w/ X4500MHDdebian amd64 unstable with xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.12.0+shadow-2 from experimental:HWACCEL test.iceweasel 3.6.10: 33 fpsfirefox 4.0b7pre: 40 fps
Hey, man. When did the chromium developers developed this feature? In my chromium 7, in the same ubuntu 10.04 with a radeon hd3200 where firefox 4.0b7 does 2fpx and chromium (without this parmeter) does 6fps, now with this parameter in command-line it (chromium) does 45fps! woow! Very fast!
However, IE 9 destroys firefox in some of the microsoft tests (speed reading IE9 gets 60 fps, FF4 gets 3 fps) and is slightly better in some of them (psychedelic browsing IE9 gets 1815 rev/sec, FF4 gets 1171 rev/sec). Anyone know why this is?
i reccomend you all NOT to activate the HW accel on firefox,(my fav browser) because it STILL SUCKS REAL BADuse google chrome 10DO NOT USE internet explorer, unless you are a virus collector and love the slow browsing it provides
[ Chris Coulson ] * Add a hack to the launcher to handle being launched from an alternative, which is a symlink to the launcher script, and breaks the current launch mechanism. Also remove a useless stat() from the current script - update debian/firefox.sh.in * Re-add patch that got dropped to not remove and re-add search plugins during upgrade - add debian/patches/bz534663_attXXX_normalize_distribution_searchplugins.patch - update debian/patches/series * Move libmozgnome.so to the main package in common-binary-predeb-arch. The previous method of deleting it from -gnome-support and copying it to the main package from debian/tmp in each of the binary-predeb targets meant that we were shipping an unstripped copy, which caused a lintian error. This new method ensures we retain the stripped SO and we still only move it after dh_shlibdeps has run - update debian/rules * Support debug builds. By setting "debug" in DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS, firefox will build with --enable-debug and --disable-optimize - update debian/rules - update debian/mozconfig.in * Really build with --disable-gnomevfs this time - update debian/mozconfig.in * Refresh patches after landing of bmo: 588410 aka Fix make install to work with omnijar - remove debian/patches/bz588410_fix_make_install_with_omnijar.patch - update debian/patches/series * Generate the en-US xpi at build time again for importing in to Launchpad - update debian/rules - update debian/translation-support/install.rdf.in

If you want to run the latest prerelease version of a Zotero component (e.g., to take advantage of a recent bug fix or test a new feature), you can install a beta build. These versions are built regularly and may be less stable than release versions.
To revert to the release version, reinstall it from the download page, though note that beta versions occasionally update the database such that downgrading isn't possible without reverting to a backup copy of zotero.sqlite in the Zotero data directory or removing the local data directory and syncing to pull down data from the online library. You'll always be able to switch to the next major production release of Zotero.
Beta versions will update automatically, or you can update to the latest version at any time from the Firefox Extensions pane. To revert to the release version, simply reinstall it from the download page.
Mozilla Firefox 4 is a version of the Firefox web browser, released on March 22, 2011.[6] The first beta was made available on July 6, 2010; Release Candidate 2 (a base for the final version) was released on March 18, 2011.[7][8] It was codenamed Tumucumaque,[9] and was Firefox's last large release cycle. The Mozilla team planned smaller and quicker releases following other browser vendors.[10] The primary goals for this version included improvements in performance, standards support, and user interface.[11]
On 22 March 2011, and during the 24-hour launch period, Firefox 4 received 7.1 million downloads, as counted and verified by the Mozilla Foundation.[53] Before that date, 3 million people downloaded the second release candidate of the browser, which later became the final version.[54] As a result, the new version of the browser received 10 million downloads on the first day.[55] Notwithstanding, it fell behind the previous record established by the launch of Firefox 3 in 2008, which was 8 million. Second-day downloads for the browser were reported to be 8.75 million, but the lack of an official representative from Guinness to monitor the numbers, made the record attained by Firefox 3 only unofficially been broken.[53]
